Institutions - Oligopoly Prezi

For the prezi we worked as a class creating fact files on the 4 main companies involved in magazine production. I my self worked on Bauer, this company works on many well known magazines including Kerrang and Q magazine. Bauer is a company that tries to compete on many multi media products such as radio and TV. However Bauer's branch into ipad and iphone apps is limited as they only feature  two magazines in this format but based on there history with the industry I doubt it will be long before they develop into this form of media as this is the only true way in my opinion and company can stay above water my developing and adapting into new areas.

The magazines I analysed where Q and clash magazine. Q magazine as afore mention is produced my Bauer one of the largest companies based in germany and has a large office in the UK. This knowledge of  the industry and power in the magazine market can be stated to have helped Q magazine be as successful as it is because of the this the magazine is very much mainstream.

Clash magazine is a completely independent magazine based and published in Dundee, Britain this is what gives Clash it originality in the music magazine industry it is very "Quirky" in terms of the style and tends to headline more undiscovered artist however it does also feature information on the 'big hitters' in the industry
.

My magazine does follow common conventions however is slightly different in terms of style to common day mainstream magazines. Because of this the company behind my magazine would more than likely be independent like Clash as it does not stick to the generics of having the big stars head lining.


New technologies must be taken into consideration when dealing with magazines as in the common recession and money crisis institutions and conglomerates need consumers and the only way to do this is to show that the product is advancing and applying to the consumers need. The emergence of new technologies in recent years has allowed the development of allot of businesses the emergence of the ipad has been one of the biggest contributing factors. The ipad has branched the way two new and inventive ways to publish magazines, Mag + is a company that works  with converting your magazine into and app for the app store this has been amazing for preexisting companies and new new ones asking for recognition. Some magazines in the current circumstances are only available as an app a prime example of this is K composite (see video below) which aims to be different then main stream produce by having everyday people feature. New technology if nothing else aside has saved small magazines such as K composite and has saved allot of people in the industry allot of money.
