Legal restraints

Films are monitored and reviewed by the BBFC in england. This company checks the film for two reasons. 1. to ensure that no copyright material has been used with unauthorised constant 2. To check the film based on values and scenes to correctly place an age verification that will be its guide line however they also check for un-moral scenes that are not properly justified within the film  if these are found then they are asked to be removed or the whole film can be refused. If copyright material is used then the the whole film production is illegal to distribute, show or play to the public audiences.

when the BBFC apply an age rating towards a piece of media two examiners view the material and fit it into preset guidelines following the age recommended. For this to be finaly chosen both examiners must agree on the same rating however if there is dispute then the media production is looked into more throughly by more examiners in till an agreement is made. Find out more at the BBFC Website.

How technology has affected movie production

Technological advances have majorly affected the film industry, magazine industry and posters. Certain advances such as HD cameras that can capture more clear and distinct images have majorly affected each of the 3 areas of media I am focusing on, as each uses rather a camera or a video camera (with some exceptions; animation etc.)  in the creation of the each publication this has meant that movies can be more immersive as there is less visible problems such as blurring that prevents you from becoming fully immersed watching a film. With better cameras coming out there is also a market for these cameras meaning that it is a lot easier for an independent movie maker or photographer to create a professional portfolio or product to help create there stamp on the industry.

The advances of computers and computer programs have also impacted the industry of all 3 publications. Releases of programs such as Final cut, Photoshop, After Affects and many more have really opened the door for young producers and film makers to create top quality publications within a reasonable cost and providing time to a program someone can create something that you would expect to see in a Hollywood film or a high end magazine. Not only this each program is updated regularly and has a very active community allowing for newer producers get to the standard and sometimes exceed the standard of professionals. this will help me when producing the film trailer, magazine cover and poster for the brief.

Technology has also allowed audiences to see sneak previews of their Favorited films and see where the bones of the film start. The hobbit is a great example of this as it has its own Blog that is updated with videos on production certain synergy news like games posters collectibles ect. this is a great source to find all the knowledge about the up coming film and is all made possible due to technological advances.

Institution

A media institution is often a business that deal with the creation and distribution of media text such as film and print. The media has several different conglomerate's ( Large company compiling of several smaller companies) these conglomerates control the mass media and do not give much room for smaller more inexperienced media companies.

An example of a large media conglomerate is Walt Disney. Walt disney is most famous for its films produced towards children such as UP, The lion king and snow white. The most interesting thing about walt disney is there use of synergy such as toys, mugs even rides found in there walt disney parts to produce longevity in film series that have been around for years.

Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is a program featured on Mac Os systems which is widely used in independent film production as well as professional film and TV producers.

Final Cut is the program I will be using the most as this is where I will edit and sync my sound and film and create the film trailer.

This screenshot is a general idea of what Final cut looks like whilst a video clip is inside. The tabs in the top left corner allow me to see what I have in the canvas and effects I can apply to my video clips.

The canvas allows you to manage your clips through creating bins (folders) that can hold certain clips inside this also is where you put the original data before moving it to the time line.

The timeline is where the main editing happens this is where clips can be cut edited and joined together to create the actual sequence.

Getting used to editing - Final Cut

To get a perspective of the editing program final cut and a rough idea of what I need to include I used Final Cut ( the program I will be using during editing ) to cut up The Crazies film trailer each time it cuts. This was just to allow me to get an idea on how many different cuts I will be needing during my trailer and also help me learn the program so I know what to do and how to do it when actually putting together my trailer.
